Did the government kidnap democracy today?

Today the Government clamped down on the peaceful protest of Baba Ramdev against Black Money.

To the best of my understanding, Baba Ramdev's main demands are as follows:

(1). Declare all the Black money (including the one stashed abroad) as national property
(2). Stringent punishment for the corrupt (death penalty)
(3). Fast track cases against corruption (verdict to be given in a year)

In my humble opinion, the demand of death penalty may be little extreme. However, all his other demands are quite justified. Infact I wonder why does it take a Baba Ramdev or an Anna Hazare to remind the government of the rampant corruption in the country! Why can't the government take counter measures on its own?

It's a shame to see Shibu Soren become the chief minister of Jharkhand (with the support of the Congress Party) even after being convicted by a court for murder, Laloo Yadav enjoying the luxuries of his home even after decades of fodder scam coming to light, Raju walking out of Jail at the pretext of medical reasons etc. I won't be surprised if tomorrow Kalmadi, Raja and Kani mozhi also walk out of Tihar with a smile on their face!

How can the prime minister who lost his sleep over Mohammed Haneef continue to sleep over the issue of corruption? How can Sonia Gandhi who comes up with some farce 5 point agenda of fighting corruption not think of something concrete?

Some people allege that Baba Ramdev's campaign was supported by BJP and RSS. They may be true, but so what? Aren't the cadres of RSS and BJP Indians too? Don't they have the right to fight against corruption? The issue of corruption is larger than the name of the individual fighting against it. So no matter who is fighting against corruption, India must support that person.

As far as today's action of the government is concerned, it is extremely shameful. When the Maoists talk with guns, then the government says that they must shun violence. And when poor Indians protest peacefully, then they are greeted with batons and tear gas shells.

With deep pain, I am reminded of the scene from Rang de Basanti in which the corrupt government clamped down on the peaceful candle light demonstration at India Gate:

May god be with the innocent men, women and children, who were forcibly separated from their family members, and were left on the unsafe roads of Dehi at the mercy of the vultures of the night. And may god be with the innocent men & women who got injured in the cowardice act of the government. Perhaps the government feels that its a crime to dream of a prosperous India which is free of corruption.

To end corruption is not a rocket science which these politicians always try to prove in media. Whenever they turn up on TV first they boast what their government has done against scams and what were the failure of previous government and walks out without any concrete road maps. From 1990's police reform bill is pending none of these MF political parties and government can get their act together and get the bill passed. They just need to separate the police force from the direct control of politician and handover to an independent body, where no police will hesitate to take action against any crime and politician but answerable to a non political independent body why no action or wrong action was taken. Any police atrocity should also be checked by same independent body.In India the parliamentarians and political parties have become extreme power and all routes of balance and checks have vanquished. Power should be distributed between the judiciary, police, non departmental public bodies, media and parliament in such a way that they all maintain a check against each other and true democracy can be practiced, right now its too much of power in hands of few and hence such apathy towards general public. India is looking to become a superpower like few west countries with thinking brain of Arab countries. The thinking of Gandhi and deeds of Hitler can't go together.

It is only because government always support these peoples(GOONDAS in politics) .may be it makes their parties reputations or they think they are more powerful now .shameful too too much shameful really.what the election commission is doing as such peoples are in politics and making it worse day by day ?do you think they are serious ,mature and responsible enough to take country ‘responsibility when they even do not have character and control on themselves.

Now come to the point on what has happened in ramlila maidan .it is really a death of democracy,a blot on our democracy. They want chairs nothing else .they even forget how to behave in a democracy ?.it is okay forget …..but we all are here to remind all of you (government ) what is a democracy and what is the power of people in a democracy. You will see that power in next elections….till then enjoy your LTHIS CHARGE AND TEAR GASES with full potential.

last time government claimed that they are serious enough to tackle corruption(in UPA2nd meeting). But now we came to know they were trying to seduce us ….can see how much serious they are(lol)may be that’s why the thing irritates them too them when people protest against corruption.

I completely agree with your line of thinking. As some one rightly stated "government's claim of being serious on corruption is equivalent to Pakistan's claim of being serious on Terrorism".

Let us remember the following:

(1). Subramanium Swamy wrote a series of letters to the Prime Minister to prosecute Raja in the spectrum scam as early as November 2008. However the prime minister refused to take any action. Ultimately Mr Swamy moved to the supreme court and one of the biggest scams of India got unearthed.

(2). On his very first day of assuming his office as the Telecom minister Mr Kapil Sibbal gave a clean chit to A Raja!

(3). When Anna Hazare wrote to the Prime Minister about Lokpal bill, the PM rejected his demands. Sonia Gandhi didn't even reply to his letters. Ultimately Anna went on a hunger strike. At that time Kapil Sibbal thundered in an interview taken by Barkha Dutt that Anna Hazare's demand of including civil society members in formulating the Lokpal bill is Unconstitutional. However, when Anna's movement gathered steam, then all of a sudden this unconstitutional demand became constitutional !

There are hundreds of other such examples which prove that the government has supported corruption actively of passively on umpteen number of occasions.

I am also aware as a Indian citizen how government things and offices works in our country. How public problems in the emails wait in “RECYCLE BIN “for the answers and letters wait in “DUSTBIN” for the answers. But these all things make enough pressure on them because they also know where they stand and we also know where they should stand up next time …

About kapil sibbal do not you think he is trying to poke his leg in other departments? I think he should concentrate on his human resources and development department as many things are going wrong there too .

And yeah they really need to control on their tongues along with their departments.
